Progressive Education Society's, Modern High School Pune- 411005 is one of the premier education institutions in Pune. It was established in the year 1934 by an eminent educationist Prof. S.R. Kanitkar. He was ably assisted by such young and dedicated teachers of proven excellence as Shri. V. T. Tatake, Shri. G.G. Damle and Shri. Koparkar etc. Late Shri. S. R. Kanitkar was the fountain head of inspiration of the persons who joined hands with him in implementing the ideas of starting a new high-school in Pune city.

A surgeon by profession, Dr. G. R. Ekbote made his foray into the world of administration in 1985. Fuelled by the desire for pedagogical pursuits, he accepted the challenging responsibility of leading the Progressive Education Society, Pune as its chairman. In order to keep pace with the changing scenario of education, he has introduced emerging and need-based courses in the institutions run by Progressive Education Society. It is an account of his pro-active approach and foresightedness that he has been successfully leading 56 educational institutions in Pune City.
